BASF recently announced that it has opened a new manufacturing plant near Shanghai, China. According to Chemicals Technology, the facility will produce base metal catalysts and absorbents that can be used for fatty alcohols, styrene, butanediol and more.

The company stated that the new facility will help reduce lead times and improve customer service in China and the Asia-Pacific region.

"In combination with the BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Shanghai, we can now offer our customers regional specific development and production of the latest catalyst technologies,” BASF Process Catalysts senior vice-president Detlef Ruff said. "The plant also offers potential for additional expansion as well as flexibility to adapt to new customer production requirements in the years to come."

BASF currently has about 8,033 employees in Greater China and is one of the country’s biggest foreign investors.

For this new facility, BASF and its partners invested about $2.97 billion.
