A Fraction of the Cycle Time

Thu, 01/03/2013 - 6:21am

Charles Ross MegaShearCharles Ross & Son has designed its patented MegaShear ultra-high-shear inline rotor/stator mixer for high-volume and high-throughput de-agglomeration, emulsification and homogenization requirements. According to the company, the MegaShear additionally grants:

  • The ability to generate complex flow patterns by running the rotor at tip speeds over 11,000 FPM, subjecting the material to thousands of intense mechanical and hydraulic shearing events in a single pass.
  • High-velocity pumping vanes and precisely machined semi-cylindrical grooves in which the product splits into different streams and collide at high frequency before exiting the mix chamber.
  • The capability to produce very fine emulsions and dispersions at a fraction of the cycle time.
  • A mix chamber that can withstand a 150-PSIG internal pressure at 250oF.
  • A cartridge-type double mechanical seal with a barrier system.
  • The avoidance of clogging, sensitivity to viscosity changes, time-consuming cleanups and intensive maintenance.
  • 316 stainless steel wetted parts polished to a 150-grit finish.
  • Availability of 3-, 6- and 9-inch (dia.) rotors.
  • Suitability for a range of applications, from food sauces and condiments to juices and flavors to pharmaceutical emulsions and cosmetics to nanocomposites and chemicals to inks and coatings to adhesives, polymers and lubricants.
  • Optional gas seals, sanitary connections, clean-in-place features and heating/cooling jackets.
