Quieter, More Efficient Granulators

Thu, 03/24/2011 - 12:49pm

Herbold SBAccording to Herbold Meckesheim, its SB Series granulators employ a patented screw-feed mechanism that makes them quieter and more efficient than gravity-fed size-reduction equipment for pulverizing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and other recyclable plastics. The company says that these granulators additionally boast:

  • The ability to process up to 7 tons of plastic per hour.
  • A screw that maintains a steady feeding pace, even if the plastic is a hodgepodge of sizes and shapes, instead of depending on the materials to fall directly into the blades.
  • Delivery of the materials to be granulated from the unit’s hopper to the cutting chamber by 1 or more conveyor screws mounted at an angle (45° to 90°) to the rotor axis.
  • A throughput 30 to 50 percent above that of gravity-fed machines with cutting chambers of the same size.
  • The elimination of fly-back.
  • Reduced wear to the cutting blades, as well as reduced fines and dust.
  • Suitability for dry or wet operations.
  • The flexibility to be used for secondary size reduction of pre-shredded plastics.
  • Less power consumption.
