Weyerhaeuser Company foundation gives local human service organizations a lift
The organizations included: United Way of Lane County (LIVE UNITED Fund) - $40,000; Pearl Buck Center (Therapeutic Sensory Garden for adults with developmental disabilities) - $12,000; Catholic Community Services of Lane County (Eugene Community Service Center) - $5,000; Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley (feeding youth & families weekday meal program) - $ 5,000; Bags of Love (programs for children entering the foster care system) - $5,000; and, Lane Community College Foundation (Scholarships) - $5,000.
Mike McDowell, Western Timberlands Springfield Area Team Leader leads the companys Lane Management Council that reviews grant applications that come to the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation. "It has been clearer and clearer to us that the need for community help remains critical. Weve been a part of this community for decades, so we want to help when and where we can," he said.
James Manning, iLevel Engineered Wood Products Eugene, Assistant Plant Manager and a member of the council, recently delivered a Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation check to the Pearl Buck Center. "They were extremely excited to receive the check. So much so, that a happy dance broke out. It feels good to be able to help when times are tough," he said.
