WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy said Monday it won a contract worth nearly $150 million to work on nuclear power plants for Exelon Corp.

The 12 boiling-water reactor plants are at seven sites in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the company said.

The deal runs through spring 2015 and builds on decades of work the company has provided on the reactors. GE said it designed the reactors for Exelon.

The GE and Hitachi venture said it will help with refuel activities and inspections and use new technology during plant outages to reduce worker radiation exposure and improve plant performance.

The reactors are in Clinton, Morris, Marseilles and Cordova, Ill.; Delta and Pottstown, Pa.; and Forked River, N.J.
