NEWPORT, Mich. (AP) -- Lockheed Martin Corp. will design and build the main control room systems for a new GE Hitachi nuclear reactor that could be used in southeastern Michigan.

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy said Wednesday that Lockheed Martin will build the control system and also provide simulation and training support for its Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor, called the ESBWR.

That reactor design is one of several under review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. GE Hitachi says it expects regulators will decide on the design this fall.

DTE Energy Co. has filed an application to use that reactor to run a new power plant near Newport.

Most of Lockheed Martin's design and production work will happen in Archbald, Pa., and Dallas. Simulation and training support will be provided in Orlando, Fla.
