Dow Named 2010 Finalist for Prestigious U.S. Chamber Award Honoring Corporate Caring

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center has named The Dow Chemical Company, headquartered in Midland, Mich., as a finalist for a 2010 Corporate Citizenship Award in the category of International Community Service. The Corporate Citizenship Awards have been presented every year since 2000 and are the nationâ??s premier recognition for companies that care.

Dow is being recognized for its commitment to provide safe, affordable, energy-efficient housing to families worldwide through its partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Since 2005, Dow has contributed almost $14 million in financial and product contributions to Habitat home builds internationally, impacting more than 25,000 homes. As important, Dow employee and retiree volunteers have given their time to help Habitat build affordable housing. In 2010, because of Dowâ??s support, more than 225 families in Dow communities around the world will realize their dream of home ownership.

â??One of Dowâ??s 2015 Sustainability Goals is to identify solutions to some of the worldâ??s most pressing challenges, among those being decent, affordable housing, energy & climate change and sustainable water supplies,â? said Bo Miller, Global Director for Corporate Citizenship at Dow. â??It is our honor and privilege to work with Habitat â?" and others â?" to provide Dow products, financial support and volunteers that contribute to solutions for these challenges, and we are proud that our efforts have been recognized for such a prestigious award.â?

The awards encompass four categories â?" Corporate Stewardship, U.S. Community Service, International Community Service, and Business-Nonprofit Partnership. For the International Community Service category, a peer committee that includes past award winners will select the winner.  All awards categories and finalists can be viewed at www.uschamber.com/bclc/awards. The winners in each category will be announced on November 30 at the 11th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.
