Cudahy Officials To Hold Morning News Conference
CUDAHY, Wis. (AP) — Cudahy (CUD'-ah-hay) authorities are expected to update residents about a still-burning fire that gutted part of a meatpacking plant and prompted the evacuation of hundreds.
The fire started late Sunday and burned all of Monday at Patrick Cudahy Inc. The 117-year-old plant is in Cudahy, a suburb of about 18,000 residents just south of downtown Milwaukee.
The evacuation order went out in an area where some 15,000 people live. It was lifted Monday evening, after about 12 hours.
Local authorities have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cudahy City Hall. They're expected to give updates on the fire and on air quality, which hasn't shown evidence of contamination.
The fire is expected to burn through Tuesday and maybe Wednesday.
