Portions Of Marketplace Bucking Recessionary Trends

While the first quarter of 2009 will not be remember for too points of economic light, there was some positives to be found in the processing marketplace:

  • According to a report by Annette Kreuger on www.industrialinfo.com, the North American Pharmaceutical-Bio Industry invested $1.7 billion on 71 capital and maintenance projects during the first quarter of 2009.
  • A recent Associated Press report states that Calgon Carbon Corp. will restart some operations at a plant near Catlettsburg, KY for producing crushed carbon that can be used in removing mercury from flue gas in coal-fired power plants. The plant will employ about 160 workers when the new line begins operation. Power plants in 15 states are now are required to use carbon scrubbing, but the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued regulations that will require other plants to use the process as well.
