The Indian government has approved plans by Reliance Petroleum Limited (RPL) to use ExxonMobil's alkylate and diesel de-sulpherization technology. RPL will incorporate processes developed by ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (EMRE) in its export-focused refinery and polypropylene complex at Jamnagar in Gujarat State, which is due for commissioning by December 2008. It will be the first time that EMRE has transferred to an Indian company its sulphuric acid alkylation technology for producing alkylate, which is a premium gasoline additive. ExxonMobil said its technology combines propylene, butylenes and pentylenes with isobutene to form alkylate.
