The V-Cone flowmeter is suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure liquid, natural gas, or steam service in extreme process environments including extracting oil from tar sands, which include a combination of crude bitumen, silica sand, and clay minerals. It handles dirty flows, high temperatures, and high pressures with accuracy of ۪.5 percent of flow rate and repeatability of ۪.1 percent. The unit needs only 0 to 3 straight pipe diameters upstream and 0 to 1 downstream to operate effectively, operates over a flow range of 10:1, and supports line sizes from 0.5 to 120 in. It requires virtually no recalibration or maintenance, and testing conforms to the API 22.2 testing protocol for differential pressure flow measurement devices.
