Leading industry analyst ARC Advisory has released a report highlighting Rockwell Automation's Insite Managed Services approach to outsourced maintenance.
The Insite Services suite helps manufacturers to reduce costs, improve organisational performance and increase system uptime and operating cash flow.
The report, 'Rockwell Automation Insite Managed Services Offers Seamless Extension to End User's Staff,' was written by research director Craig Resnick and released in February 2010.
It describes the benefits to manufacturers of leveraging an automation supplier's service personnel, outlines the five service components that comprise Insite Services and provides a case study of an Insite customer.
In the report, Resnick says: 'The shift to a services-intensive automation marketplace has come about because of the wave of workforce downsizing that has occurred, combined with the increasing support and costs associated with optimising automation systems and automation infrastructure.
'The next transformation for the services business is that of establishing automation suppliers' service personnel as a seamless extension of the end-user's staff, a service provided by Rockwell Automation Insite Managed Services.
'End users no longer have the time or resources to deal with the many different automation and enterprise suppliers on a project.
'Automation suppliers not only have deep product and application knowledge for their own solutions, but also their knowledge of competitive offerings has increased exponentially as part of their services focus on competitive migration projects,' the report explains.
The Insite Services from Rockwell Automation allow manufacturers to select and configure five managed-service capabilities to create a life-cycle management strategy that meets their needs and helps reduce costs.
These capabilities include: surveillance - remote, near real-time system monitoring; diagnostics - system analysis, troubleshooting and issue correction; knowledge management - ongoing management of knowledge cases and documents; administration - life-cycle application and system management; and optimisation - system performance-improvement and development services.
