Website 'Constructive' Tool on Fracking

The chairman of the Senate Energy Committee says a website partially funded by the oil and gas industry is a constructive tool that could be used by federal regulators in requiring public disclosure of the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing operations.

Pa. Water Plants Fined by EPA for Drilling Waste

The federal Environmental Protection Agency is fining three western Pennsylvania wastewater plants for discharging natural gas drilling wastewater into the Allegheny River or tributaries that feed it. The fines are contained in a consent agreement with the companies that ran the plants.

The Nevada Senate endorsed NV Energy Inc.'s plan Wednesday to retire coal-fired power plants and pave the way for the state's biggest electrical utility to transition to more renewable sources. After several revisions, SB123 was approved unanimously and now moves to the Assembly.

The death toll from a massive blast at an explosives plant in eastern China has risen to 23 with 10 people still missing. The official Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday that 19 others were injured by the explosion, which ripped through the plant in Shandong province on Monday.

The grounding of a Royal Dutch Shell PLC drill barge off a remote Alaska island began with a bracket connected to a tow line being ripped off the vessel in heavy Gulf of Alaska weather, a Shell official testified Monday. Damage to the ship from the grounding was a factor in Shell's decision not to drill in Arctic waters in 2013.
