MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — Dow Chemical Co. says its headquarters city is the preferred site for the first full-scale production facility for its Powerhouse solar shingles.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. is considering up to $140 million in economic incentives for the Midland plant, which would produce photovoltaic solar panels integrated into shingles that can be installed on rooftops with standard asphalt shingle materials.
Dow says the plant, which would expand on a small-scale facility already operating at Dow's Michigan Operations in Midland, could bring more than 1,200 jobs to the region by 2014. The company says limited amounts of Powerhouse shingles are expected to be available by mid-2010.
Dow says the project is subject to finalizing local, state and federal funding.
